Slideshows and Videos

The purpose of ColonyIsland.com is to promote Urban Mermaid, the Tails from Colony Island series, and to provide some background information on mermaids as well as the world of Colony Island. While it is not my intent for this to become a mermaid graphics site, there are nonetheless, some drawings that help illustrate ideas posited by the posts, pages, and FAQs.

To that end, I have created several – actually, only three so far – slideshows and a few more will be created as time goes by. If you have ideas about images, cartoons, drawings, etc. which will both elaborate upon this website’s purpose and bring a smile to visitors’ faces, please let me know. I’ve seen a number of mermaid themed cartoons over the years that will make a good slide-show. There are other possibilities as well, such as one featuring photos of how I imagine Colony Island  to appear in real life.

In addition, there are several YouTube™ videos relating to Urban Mermaid, mermaids, etc.

Here is what we have available at the moment.

  1. Siren School – Isabella Rotman’s humourous take on how Sirens in the 21st Century ply their trade. It was added as a humourous counterpoint to the FAQ explaining the difference between Mermaids and Sirens. It was also the driving force to add slideshows in the first place.
  2. FISH – Sarah Mensinga’s funny comic strip depicting how a mermaid saves a sailor tied to the mast of a sinking ship. The dialogue between the two characters is illustrated by a series of pictographs.
  3. Urban Mermaid Book Trailer – This short video was created for us by the wonderful Ilsie Om and rightly deserves a place in this collection.
  4. Valentine’s Day Cards – Since it’s Valentine’s Day – or close enough – we thought we’d put together a wee slideshow featuring mer-themed  Valentines. One of these will appear in the Ask Madison column of the Colony Chronicle.
  5. Clorox Commercial – This is a cute commercial for Clorox™ featuring a little mermaid and her imagination.
  6. Hallelujah – Leonard Cohen’s masterful song,  Hallelujah, performed by the Israeli Defence Forces. Well may you ask, “What’s a video by the IDF doing on this website?” Well, this video has a cameo role in the sequel to Urban Mermaid and that’s all we’re going to tell you.
  7. Hallelujah, Canadian Style – The pipe of Simon Fraser University perform Leonard Cohen’s masterful song. This rendition is Peter MacPherson’s favourite.
  8. Can’t Help Falling in Love – The musical theme for Urban Mermaid sung by Michael Bublé.
  9. BookExpo 2016 – The IBPA video with highlights from their booth at BookExpo/BookCon 2016 in Chicago. If you watch closely, I think there’s a shot or two of me included.
  10. Author Interview – This is my author interview at the IBPA booth during BookExpo/BookCon 2016 in Chicago.
  11. The Honeydrippers – Sea of Love – This cover of the 1959 song has a somewhat “mermaid-y” feel in parts and has a cameo role in the sequel to Urban Mermaid.
  12. Pirates of the Caribbean – On Stranger TidesA discussion of what is arguably the best scene in this move and how it relates to Urban Mermaid. A video clip of the scene is included.

That’s it for now. There will be more to see before too long.
